“What shall it avail our nation if we can place a man on the moon, but cannot cure the sickness in our cities?” - McCone Commission Report
Consumer culture is predicated on exploitation, unfair labor practices, racial capitalism, and inhumane wages. The U.S. criminal justice system has condoned slavery, Jim Crow, the KKK, the murders of Tamir Rice, Michael Brown, Eric Garner, Trayvon Martin, Emmett Till, Latasha Harlin, and countless others. Why should economic and legal systems built on injustice, violence, and cruelty not be met with resistance? Why can protest, looting, and violence be condemned if used against systemic inequality, but not as tools of the system to function normally? How can the USA continue like this any longer?
